Welcome to UMD!

Welcome to the University of Maryland, College Park! UMD has many accounts and systems that may take some time to get used to. We recommend ensuring you have the following set up, in approximately this order,

Key Items:

  • DirectoryID - Use this link to activate your Directory ID (username) and set your passphrase. Once set, this will be what you log in with to most web-based systems.

  • Duo MFA - Use this link to read about how to set up your Duo Multi-Factor Authentication for use with your Directory ID. You'll use this every time you log in through the Central Authentication System (CAS) web page.

  • Ordering Computing Equipment and Recommended Computer Specifications - Here you can find information on how to order a computer for your UMD needs. All departmental and research purchases are considered UMD-owned, and personally-owned devices are not allowed on the wired network at this time.

  • Gmail - Log in to Gmail with your UMD email address, "<username>@umd.edu" and it will automatically redirect you to the CAS page with a Duo MFA request. You must use your UMD Gmail account for all work-related communications!
  • Using your UMD-owned computer
    • If you've been given a UMD-owned device from an Engineering college unit, Physics, or Math departments, make sure to have your supervisor reach out to eit-help@umd.edu so they can make sure you're on-boarded properly and can login with the appropriate permissions.

  • Zoom - You can read about how to log in to Zoom here

  • Phone + WebEx
    • Your department should have provided a desk phone for you. If not, or if your desk phone isn't correctly associated with you, have your supervisor reach out to eit-help@umd.edu for assistance.
    • If you have a phone and would like to use the soft phone features (making phone calls with your UMD extension from your computer), you can read about that at this link.

  • Timesheets
  • Storage - Where can and should I store my data?

  • Printing
    • UMD Staff, Faculty, and Graduate students in the Engineering college, Physics, and Math departments have access to their respective unit printers via a program called PrinterLogic. You can read more about it at this article: PrinterLogic - Adding a Printer - Start Here.
    • Undergraduate students and anyone on campus may use printing kiosks called WEPA. You can find more about using WEPAs at this article: Printing at a WEPA Kiosk
