GlobalProtect Connect Before Logon (PreLogon)

GlobalProtect Connect Before Logon Uses and Details

Overview

Connect Before Logon can be used to cache user credentials when the device is not on a university wired or wireless network. This is very important for laptops and off-campus desktops, particularly if you have recently updated your university credentials from off-campus, and find yourself unable to log into your university device. This feature is installed on computers configured by the EIT Helpdesk.

  1. To use this feature, navigate past the CTRL+ALT+DEL page to the login screen, and look for a row of icons on the bottom right-hand corner. Click on the leftmost icon shown- the appearance differs between Windows 10 and 11.
    1. Windows 10
Windows 10 network sign-in icon on log-in screen
    2. Windows 11
      Windows 11 Network Signin
  2. When you click this icon, you will then be prompted with a CAS sign-in.

  3. After signing into the VPN, click on the Back button to return to the login screen.
  4. Now that you are connected to a UMD network, you should be able to enter your current UMD credentials and sign in again.

If you do not see this icon on device, or need assistance for any of these steps, please contact the EIT Helpdesk for assistance.
