DNCA Policies Affecting Transference of Devices
I have purchased a computer with my own personal funds (not grant, not department), that I want to be reimbursed for.
UMD's Chief Information Officer Jeff Hollingsworth has stated that this is no longer allowed. Please work with your unit's Business Office and/or the Engineering IT Service Desk to quote and order a UMD-owned device for UMD work and research. See this article for more information on that process: Ordering Computing Equipment and Recommended Computer Specifications
I'm joining UMD and want to bring my previous device from another institution.
Per the DNCA rules, the device coming from the previous institution may be gifted to UMD for you to continue using. Please read more here about how you and your business office unit can make use of this process. Once it is "UMD-owned," your device must be brought into compliance for use on the UMD network, which includes the requirements listed at this link.
I'm leaving UMD. What can I do with my computer/device?
All designated non-capital assets (DNCA) must be returned when the assigned user of that asset leaves UMD. Capital assets are already tightly controlled and fall under similar restrictions.
To request an exception, you can use the DNCA exception form below. The request form is intended for situations where a unit, department, or requesting party believes there are extenuating circumstances that warrant operating outside of established DNCA policies or procedures. Requests are granted on a case-by-case basis and are rarely approved even if the local unit approves.
