Zoom - Disable Recording Passwords
By default, Zoom cloud recordings are locked with a randomly generated password, for security reasons. The following instructions will show you how to disable this password for both past and future meetings. Note that these settings must be changed at umd.zoom.us, they cannot be changed from within the integrated Zoom app in Canvas.
Disabling Passwords on Future Recordings
Follow these steps to prevent Zoom from automatically generating passwords for meetings you record:
- Go to umd.zoom.us, and log in with your Directory ID and password.
- Once logged in, navigate to Settings by clicking the 'Settings' tab on the left side of the screen.
- By default, it will open up your Meeting settings. Select the 'Recording' tab at the top of the page to switch to the appropriate settings page.
- Scroll down until you see the option 'Require password to access shared cloud recordings'. Toggle the slider on the right side of the screen to turn off this setting for future recordings.
Disabling Passwords on Past Recordings
Any meetings recorded before the setting above is turned off will automatically have passwords created for them, and you will have to manually disable the password for each past meeting:
- Go to umd.zoom.us, and log in with your Directory ID and password.
- Once logged in, navigate to your previous recordings by clicking the 'Recordings' tab on the left side of the screen.
- Find the recording that you want to disable the password for and hit 'Share'.
- Within the window that pops up, toggle the slider next to 'Password Protect' to disable the password for this meeting. You will have to repeat these steps for all past meetings that you need to remove the password from.
