DivIT Network Certificate Issues

Posted: 2026-07-16 12:50:21   Expiration: 2026-07-23 12:50:21

UMD's Division of IT recently pushed out new policy-based networking certificates. Some devices are not receiving them correctly and must be manually addressed. Please see the information below if you've been affected by this issue. If you are unable to resolve the network issue, please reach out to eit-help@umd.edu for assistance.

For a Windows Computer

Windows Managed in Intune

  • This should have been completed automatically via Intune. If it is not working as expected, please see the below steps.
  • If eduroam is not working:
    • Keep device connected to A network. Could be UMD-Guest, ethernet, hotspot, whatever.
    • Send the device's serial number to itsupport@umd.edu stating that DIT needs to re-push the certificate.
    • At some point, they'll do so and the device will get the new cert.
    • Connect to eduroam. If it asks you to choose a cert, pick the one that starts with 'EDUROAM'. If there are multiples of that cert, keep trying different ones until it works.

For a Managed Windows Desktop that is somehow trying to connect to UMD-Guest after the certs got pushed out:

  • Disconnect from ethernet
  • Wait a few minutes
  • Reconnect
  • Should work after that.

Personal (Unmanaged) Windows Computer

  • Connect to UMD-Guest, ethernet, hotspot, or some other network.
  • Open your browser and go to connect.umd.edu
  • Follow the prompts (same as those listed under the iPhone) until you get to the profile download.
  • Download the profile, then click the file in the downloads folder.
  • Connect to Eduroam

For a Mac Computer

Mac Managed in JAMF

  • This should have been completed automatically via JAMF.

Personal (Unmanaged) Mac Computer

  • Connect to UMD-Guest, ethernet, hotspot, or some other network.
  • Open Safari and go to connect.umd.edu
  • Follow the same prompts as iPhone until you get to the profile download.
  • Download the profile, then click the file in the downloads folder.
  • Open Settings, then navigate to either "Device Management" or "Profiles" depending on OS version. Either in General or Security & Privacy, again depending on OS version.
  • Double click the installed profile (not the file itself, but the one that should now appear in the Settings app) and install
  • Connect to Eduroam

Mobile Devices

iPhone

  • Disconnect from eduroam
  • Use cellular data (preferred) or connect to UMD-guest
  • Go to connect.umd.edu USING SAFARI, log in with SAML, then click the "Install Now" button
  • Allow the download, notification will pop up saying that the profile needs to be installed in settings
  • Settings App -> either there will be a prompt at the top saying "Profile Downloaded" or you can go to General -> VPN & Device Management
  • Click the downloaded profile, then click install in the top right
  • Enter iPhone passcode and click the blue checkmark button in the top right
