Getting Started with Honorlock
How to get started with Honorlock, the online proctoring tool.
Overview
Honorlock is an online proctoring service available to UMD courses for a fee of $12.50 per exam. The service helps maintain academic integrity during online assessments by providing remote proctoring capabilities.

Requesting Honorlock
- Units or programs may approve and fund the service at $12.50 per exam
- To request access, email itsupport@umd.edu with "Honorlock Request" in the subject line
- DIT will provide the memorandum of understanding and configure Honorlock for each requested course
Technical Requirements
For Students:
- Computer with working camera and microphone
- Google Chrome browser (required)
- Stable internet connection
- Will NOT work on phones or tablets
- WILL work on Chromebooks with camera and microphone
For Instructors:
- DO NOT enable Respondus Lockdown Browser for quizzes using Honorlock
- DO NOT set an access code for Canvas Quizzes using Honorlock (the system adds one automatically)
- Add a practice exam to your course so students can test their setup before actual exams

Best Practices
- Inform students about Honorlock requirements well before exams
- Include clear instructions in your syllabus about proctoring expectations
- Schedule your practice exam at least one week before the first proctored assessment
- Provide alternative arrangements for students who cannot access the required technology
