Minimum Computer Support Requirements

The EIT Service Desk requires that computers meet certain age, hardware, and operating system specifications in order to be considered "under support".

Our minimum computer support requirements are as follows:

Windows

  • Intel Core i5 Processor or other approximate equivalent.
  • 8GB of DDR4 RAM or other approximate equivalent.
  • Windows 11 (version 23H2) or higher
  • As of February 2026, the Service Desk will no longer support systems older than machines released in 2019.

macOS

  • The EIT Service Desk mirrors Apple's own documentation on supported devices. If a computer can be updated to one of Apple's supported operating systems, then it is supported by us.
  • Information on the currently-supported operating system versions can be found here.
  • Information on model compatibility with specific operating systems can be found here.

Linux

  • Intel Core i5 Processor or other approximate equivalent.
  • 8GB of DDR4 RAM or other approximate equivalent.
  • RedHat Glue Linux 8 (Math Department only) or newer.
  • Ubuntu Linux 22.04 LTS or newer.
  • As of February 2026, the Service Desk will no longer support systems older than machines released in 2019.
