COMSOL User Installation Instructions
User guide for installing COMSOL on University-owned machines.
- If you are using COMSOL with MATLAB, ensure that a compatible MATLAB version is installed PRIOR to installing COMSOL.
- Contact the Service Desk at eit-help@umd.edu for the appropriate COMSOL installation media for your operating system.
- Proceed in English, and select "New COMSOL 5.6 Installation."
- Do the following in order for the window shown:
- Accept the software license agreement
- Specify the license format as "<port>@<hostname>"
- Enter "1718" as the Port, and "license.ece.umd.edu" as the hostname.
- Click "Check" afterwards to make sure the license is valid. This may take a few moments.
- Click "Next". This may take a few moments because of license validation.
- Select and deselect products as needed.
- IMPORTANT: Scroll all the way to the bottom of the list, and uncheck “License Manager.” DO NOT INSTALL THE LICENSE MANAGER.

- Options: Generally, leave the defaults, but make sure to select “Install for all users” to prevent future complications.
- If you are installing COMSOL for use with MATLAB, make sure that COMSOL is pointed to the desired version of MATLAB. If prompted, make sure you select any options that specify “Install for all users” to prevent software complications.
- Click Next, review the list of packages, then click Install.
