Instructions to install GlobalProtect on Ubuntu

Step 1: Obtaining the GlobalProtect .deb package

Download the GlobalProtect .deb package from Terpware: https://terpware.umd.edu/Linux/Title/4010

  • Visit the URL and download the latest version. For Ubuntu 24, this is Linux 6.2.1.

Step 2: Installing GlobalProtect

Open a new terminal window (Ctrl+alt+T), navigate to the .deb package, and execute the following commands:

  • cd Downloads/
  • sudo apt install libqt5webkit5
  • sudo dpkg -i <press tab to autocomplete file name or type in full file name: GlobalProtect_UI_deb-6.2.1.1-276.deb>

GlobalProtect should now be installed after this is run

Step 2

Step 3: Configuring and Authenticating

After GlobalProtect is installed a window prompting for the portal address should appear.

  • Enter "access.umd.edu" as the portal address and click connect

Step 3

It should now open a browser page prompting you to authenticate with your UMD credentials

  • Enter your directoryID and Password

  • Open GlobalProtect and Change the Gateway to TunnelAll Gateway

STep3-1

After you Authenticate successfully, GlobalProtect should now be connected.

You must restart the computer to prevent any errors from arising.
